Rut Gómez Sobrino’s Doctoral Dissertation Defense

This doctoral research, titled “Arab media legal frameworks, privatisations and ownership models. Prospects for independent media industries in a strategic region in transition,” offers a rigorous analysis of the structural and regulatory dynamics shaping media systems in several African countries. By examining the interplay between legal frameworks, ownership patterns, and privatisation processes, the dissertation contributes to a deeper understanding of the conditions necessary for fostering independent media in transitional contexts. The work was awarded the highest academic distinction—sobresaliente cum laude unanimously—in recognition of its scholarly merit and relevance.
