Call for Papers - CIDRA Conference on Multi-Level Governance and Regional Integration in Africa - Addis Ababa University - 20-21 October

As part of the CIDRA Project, the Centre for Federalism and Governance Studies (CFGS) at Addis Ababa University invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit abstracts for an international conference on Multi-Level Governance and Regional Integration in Africa, to be held on 20–21 October 2026.

The CIDRA Project brings together leading researchers to explore the evolving dynamics of governance and regional integration across Africa. Within this framework, the conference aims to advance cutting-edge research on how multi-level governance systems—federal, devolved, and decentralized—interact with regional and continental institutions.

At a time when African states are simultaneously redistributing power internally and engaging more deeply in regional cooperation, this CIDRA conference provides a unique platform to examine these intersecting processes. We seek contributions that engage with both theoretical and empirical dimensions of governance transformation in Africa.

Key themes include:

  • Governance and regional integration
  • Constitutionalism and rule of law
  • Role of courts and institutions
  • Natural resource and energy governance
  • Geopolitics and regional dynamics
  • Participation of sub-national governments
  • Digital governance and future cooperation

Why contribute to a CIDRA conference?

  • Be part of an international research network under the CIDRA Project
  • Engage with leading scholars working on governance in Africa
  • Contribute to policy-relevant and impactful academic debates

Submission Details:

  • Abstracts (max. 300 words)
  • Deadline: 15 May 2026
  • Full papers due: 1 October 2026
